Choosing A Lawn Mower - Know Your Options

So you've at long last determined you want a new lawn mower but there are so many alternatives that you truly don't know where to begin. The process does not have to be challenging if you understand early exactly what it is you will require.

There are three things you need to look at first. Know the pitch and size of your yard. Work out what features you will require. And decide on the power and quality of the engine.

Now let's determine if you require a walk behind lawn mower or a riding lawn mower. If your lawn is under three-quarters of an acre, the more popular walk behind mower would be a good selection. If your lawn is smaller and level, you won't want a lot of additional features. If your yard is larger than 1/2 an acre or is filled with hills and rough terrain, then a self propelled walking mower is a wise choice. These mowers move without any pushing on your part. Your task is simply to walk behind it and guide it around any turns.

The important matter here is to be sure the engine power and mower deck corresponds with your yard. The amount of grass cut by one pass is decided by the lawn mower deck. A narrower deck means more passes over the grounds to complete the task. Merge a large deck with a powerful engine, and mowing is easy. Only don't throw money away by going overboard. Matching the mower with the grounds will give you the best results at the best price.

One other element to look at is the size of the rear wheels. If your lawn has many hills or is extremely rough, you may need to get larger wheels for easier mowing. Basic wheels will be good for typical yards.

If your lawn is bigger than three-fourths of an acre, a riding lawn mower would be a better choice. Again you will need to match the engine size and mower deck size with your yard. The rules stay the same. A more powerful engine and bigger deck only make sense if you have several acres. There's no need to buy larger and waste money if you have less than an acre.

There are various ways to maneuver and steer your riding lawn mower. You can get steering sticks or a steering wheel, depending on which is most comfortable for you. A zero turn lawn mower will enable you to turn easily around landscape characteristics like trees and bushes. If your property does not have several of these, then this is an extra feature that you in all probability don't need.

Lastly, decide if you require a mulching lawn mower. These mowers have specially designed blades that will continually chop up the blades of grass into little fragments. These fragments are returned to the soil where they break down and act as a natural plant food. Bagging is your other alternative. The bag holds the cuttings permitting you to throw them away.

Of course there are numerous additional choices. You can purchase electric lawn mowers that are cordless or corded. You can buy a solar powered lawn mower. You can even buy an automatic lawn mower that you don't even need to be around while it does the job. But knowing what you require before searching for lawn mowers for sale will make the quest a much easier job.
